Here is a quick tour of my studio. As for many artistic or craftwork activities I believe that having the right tools and the right environment is crucial. This is especially true when it comes to painting minis.
My first hobby space was pretty small... but convenient (I like to have everything within easy reach) !
But at some point of time I started to acquire more stuff, paint and tools and the desk itself was a bit too low for my taste, so I "found" more space ("found" means I had to negotiate really hard with the boss to get extra space!). The result was totally worth it and I discovered how everything becomes easier with a large work space.
Still the paint was taking a lot of the space so I decided to modify a bit the desk and add few holes to hold the bottles. Nothing fancy but very convenient.
Now let's talk about the lightning, it's probably the most important part of the studio. My previous lightning was quite alright but the lamps were a bit yellowish and definitely too static. When I changed to this new desk I really wanted to improve it, having more powerful lights but also easy repositioning. I found that IKEA TERTIAL work lamps are really the best and super cheap. Seriously, try it ! For the bulbs I use Daylight D15320 32W (suggested by the Youtube producer Paepercuts). The temperature being around 6500 K, you get a very white lightning that is perfect for painting, and the intensity is just fantastic. It's about 20 EUR so definitely affordable and the results are surpassing all other bulbs I tested. I got the most comfortable configuration by placing to static lamps in the back and two movable in the front.
